Sachin is born. Only literally, at this point. His father Shri Ramesh Tendulkar is a renowned Marathi poet and novelist, and his mother Smt. Rajni Tendulkar works at an insurance company. The youngest of four siblings, he gets named after the famous music director, Sachin Dev Burman.
1983
Inspiration
Sachin starts taking serious interest in cricket after watching India win the 1983 World Cup.
1984
Under the guidance of his coach, Mr. Ramakant Achrekar, Sachin begins to hone his skills as a cricketer. Achrekar Sir demands top tier dedication, and Sachin is up for it.

- 1985 Sachin shows early signs of his hunger for runs. Scores a ton in an under-17 Harris Shield match as a 12-year-old.
- 1986 At the age of 13, Sachin gets picked to play in all three junior level BCCI tournaments, U-15, U-17 and U-19.
- 1987 14-year-old Sachin becomes the youngest player to be selected among the probables for the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team.
1988
664 run partnership
Sachin scores an unbeaten 326 to stitch a world record 664-run partnership with Vinod Kambli in Mumbai’s premier interschool Cricket tournament, Harris Shield. The feat gets mentioned in The Guinness Book of Records and the Wisden Cricketers’ Almanac.

The Debut
Sachin makes his international debut for India in Tests as well as ODIs at the tender age of 16. He becomes the youngest cricketer to play for India.

Saving a test match for India in Manchester, Tendulkar scores his maiden test century, and becomes the youngest Indian ever to do so.
1992
Yorkshire
Signed by Yorkshire County Cricket Club, Tendulkar becomes the first overseas-born Cricketer to represent them.
1994
OPENED FOR THE 1ST TIME
Sachin opens the innings for the first time in ODIs. Scores 82 off just 49 balls against New Zealand in Auckland.
First ODI 100
He scores his first ODI 100 later that year against Australia in Colombo.
1995
Gets Married!
On May 25, 1995, he marries Dr. Anjali Mehta, who is a paediatrician by profession.
1996
LEADING RUN-GETTER
Sachin scores 523 runs, including two centuries. Ends the World Cup as the highest run-scorer of the tournament.
He is made the captain of his national team later that year.
1997
The couple is blessed with their first child, a daughter they name Sara.
1998
The 25-year-old scores as many as 1894 ODI runs in the calendar year, a record that is still unbroken. Scores 143 and 134 in consecutive innings against the Aussies to win India the Coca Cola Cup in Sharjah.
1999
Two years after the birth of their daughter, Sachin and Anjali are blessed with a son, who they name Arjun.
2001
Sachin becomes the first player to score 10,000 runs in ODIs. This happens in a match against Australia in Indore, where he celebrates the landmark by scoring yet another 100.

The same year, the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai names a stand after him.
2003
World cup- Man of the series
He wins the Player of the Tournament award for scoring a record 673 runs in the 2003 world cup.
2005
Sachin scores his 35th test hundred against Sri Lanka in Delhi, and becomes the man with the most test 100s in the world.
2008
Sachin goes past Brian Lara’s tally to become the highest run- getter in test matches.
2009
MADAME TUSSAUDS
On Tendulkar’s birthday, Madame Tussauds Wax Museum in London launches a life-size wax statue of him, making him the first Indian sportsperson to feature there.
2010
First Ever Double Centurion
Sachin scores 200* against South Africa to become the first ever player to score a double century in an ODI.

BEST BATSMAN & BEST CAPTAIN
He wins the Orange Cap, scoring 618 runs, and is named the Player of the Series in this year’s IPL.
ICC CRICKETER OF THE YEAR
He is named the ICC cricketer of the year.
50TH TEST HUNDRED
Scores his fiftieth test hundred at the Centurion, becomes the only cricketer to have achieved this feat.
AIR FORCE - GROUP CAPTAIN
Tendulkar is conferred with the honorary rank of Group Captain by the Indian Air Force at the 83rd Indian Air Force Day celebrations. This is a first for any sportsperson.
THE DREAM COMES TRUE
India win the World Cup after 28 years. Sachin’s lifelong dream is fulfilled.
Sachin scores his 100th international hundred, becomes the first person to do so.

Sachin bids good-bye to the game in front of his home crowd in Mumbai.
UNICEF GOODWILL AMBASSADOR
The same year, Sachin is appointed as UNICEF’s Goodwill Ambassador for the South Asia region to promote and advocate the important cause of hygiene and sanitation in communities.

He is conferred the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award. Becomes the first sportsperson and the youngest individual to receive this award.

ADOPTED TWO VILLAGES- AS AN MP, ONE OF THE FIRST
The same year, he adopts a village as a Member of the Parliament. In a first-of-its-kind initiative, as a Rajya Sabha MP, Sachin adopts Puttamraju Kandrika - a village in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana. Two years after the adoption, the village is declared Open Defecation Free (ODF). A year after that, Sachin adopts yet another village - Donja in Osmanabad in Maharashtra.

CWC 2015 BRAND AMBASSADOR
The ICC announces Sachin Tendulkar as the ambassador of the Cricket World Cup 2015 hosted by Australia and New Zealand. They choose him to promote and support a variety of their initiatives to enhance the profile of the tournament.

CRICKET FOR GOOD AMBASSADOR FOR WOMEN’S WORLD CUP 2017
Ahead of the 2017 Women’s World Cup in the UK, the International Cricket Council (ICC) appoints Tendulkar as the UNICEF Cricket For Good Ambassador, with a view to encourage young girls and their families to be a part of the sport.

Swachhta Ambassador award
On the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Tendulkar is conferred with the Most Effective Swachhta Ambassador award for his relentless pursuit to drive sanitation and hygiene practices across the country since 2014.

HALL OF FAME
In 2019, Sachin became only the sixth Indian cricketer to be inducted into the prestigious ICC Cricket Hall of Fame, alongside former South African pacer Allan Donald and Australia’s Cathryn Fitzpatrick.

LAUREUS AWARD 2020
Tendulkar’s World-Cup-winning moment of 2011 titled ‘Carried on the Shoulders of a Nation’ wins the ‘Sporting Moment 2000-2020’ award at the 2020 Laureus Awards held in Berlin, Germany.

Sachin Tendulkar was surrounded by a loving family, friends and mentors. Their support, along with the unconditional love of sports fans worldwide, helped him achieve his dream of playing for India and winning the World Cup for the nation. The tremendous support he received over the years from fans all over has made him who he is today. Sachin wanted to give back to the nation which has supported him throughout his journey. The Sachin Tendulkar Foundation is a platform which is created to bring together people, institutions and resources who are passionate about bring a social change. The foundation attempts to serve children and give them a better tomorrow.
