“Wishing you a very special 100th birthday, Shri Vasant Raiji,” former India batting great Sachin Tendulkar tweeted as a caption. “Steve & I had a wonderful time listening to some amazing cricket stories about the past. Thank you for passing on a treasure trove of memories about our beloved sport.”

Raiji featured in nine first-class matches in his decade long career. He has scored 277 runs at an average of 23. He was a specialist right-handed batsman. He made his debut for the Cricket Club of (CCI) and played against the likes of Central Provinces and Berar in Nagpur in 1939.

The charity match saw Ponting XI beat Gilchrist XI by 1 run in an entertaining game which had the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Brian Lara, Wasim Akram in action.

Cricket Australia on Sunday confirmed that the Bushfire charity cricket match featuring legends of the past managed to raise over USD 7.7 million for the communities devastated by the fires that have ravaged Australia for months.

Two teams led by Ricky Ponting and Adam Gilchrist played against each other in a 10-overs-per-side match in which Ponting XI emerged victorious by 1 run against Gilchrist XI at the Melbourne Junction Oval stadium.

Ponting XI posted 104 for 5 on the board in 10 overs with former West Indies captain Brian Lara top-scoring with 30 runs off 11 balls. His knock included 3 boundaries and two sixes.

Captain Ricky Ponting himself contributed with 26 runs while Matthew Hayden and Luke Hodge made 16 and 11 runs respectively.

West Indies legend Courtney Walsh, former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh and ex-Australia all-rounder Andrew Symonds picked up a wicket each for Gilchrist XI.

In reply the Gilchrist XI started off well with Shane Watson and Adam Gilchrist adding 49 runs for the first wicket. Watson top-scored with 30 runs while Gilchrist made 11 in the partnership.

But their innings was derailed by speedster Brett Lee and Luke Hodge, who ran through the batting lineup, picking up 3 wickets in quick succession.

Brad Hodge was sent back for a duck while Yuvraj managed just 2 off 6 balls. Andrew Symonds tried his best with 29 off 13 balls but it wasn’t enough to get his team over the finish line. Lee finished with 2 for 11 while Hodge bagged a wicket for 8 runs.

During the mid-innings break, former India captain and batting legend Sachin Tendulkar padded up and faced 2019 Women’s Cricketer of the Year Ellyse Perry and Annabel Sutherland for an over.

Tendulkar, who was also coaching the Ponting XI, said while walking up to the pitch that it was the first time in five years that he was picking up a bat.

The 46-year-old got off the mark with a boundary and then took a couple of runs but blocked out the rest of the deliveries. Perry bowled 3 balls to Tendulkar before handing it over to her teammate Annabel Sutherland for the remaining two deliveries.

“Spinny has partnered with Indian sporting legend Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin is a strategic investor in the company, as well as lead brand endorser,” the company said in a release.

Sachin Tendulkar, popularly known as the God of Cricket, arrived in Indore with his team on Tuesday morning. He then headed to Sister Nivedita School and Hostel that his foundation is building in association with an NGO namely ‘Parivaar Education Society’, in Sandalpur village of Dewas district and also visited Seva Kutir in Sewaniya village of Sehore district. Sachin Tendulkar Foundation is helping Seva Kutir school in Sehore and the under-construction school and hostel in Dewas, which is presently run by the NGO for the tribals.

The sporting icon is getting the school and hostel constructed in Dewas in memory of his late father Professor Ramesh Tendulkar.

While visiting both places, Sachin sought information from the CEO of Parivaar Education Society, Siddharth Parmar. Following this, he visited Shri Ramakrishna Vivekananda Seva Kutir, where education to children is provided with meals twice a day.

In Sewaniya village, children are provided education and two-time meals by the NGO at the Seva Kutir. Many such ‘Seva Kutirs’ are currently operational in 13 districts of Madhya Pradesh, which were first established by founder of the NGO Vinayak Lohani in West Bengal.

Sachin, who reached Sewaniya village in Sehore district, also talked to the children studying there and gave them autographs while posing for photographs with them. He also played cricket with the children of the village. The enthusiastic children looked elated and enjoyed their time with the cricket icon.

Speaking to ANI, Sachin said, “It is a great pleasure to come to Sandalpur and Sewaniya. We are helping to build a school and hostel in Sandalpur, about 2,300 students will be able to live and study here over a span of 10 years. The people of the Parivaar Education Society will help the children and shape their careers. At this stage they need guidance. Children aged between 4 and 16 years will be given proper guidance. Apart from this, there will be arrangements for food with a proper nutrition plan. They are the future of the country. India is the youngest average aged nation. It is our strength and we need to utilise it in a proper way to see good results in the forthcoming years.”

He further assured all possible help will be provided to children by him, his wife Anjali and his foundation.

While speaking to children, Sachin asked them about their aspirations, on which some children said that they want to become teacher, police personnel amongst other professions. The children who said that they want to become a teacher promised Sachin that they will return to this ‘Seva Kutir‘ to teach other underprivileged children.

“One should not forget their roots. Like someone is coming here to teach them, one day they will come here and teach the next generation. Like it is said, once you roll the ball, it picks up momentum and a little push needs to be given. With the promise of these children, a chain will be formed and it must not be broken,” said Sachin.

“There are about 150 children who have dreams and we will support, give platforms so that they can become whoever they want to be,” he added. (ANI)

As part of the brand’s ongoing ‘Shaving Stereotypes’ theme, Gillette has launched a new campaign in India called “Man Enough” created by Grey India.

The film focuses on a chapter in the life of army veteran Manoj Kumar Sinha who was injured during combat but held back tears through his recovery because his father taught him that showing emotion was not what men do.

“As a leading male brand and advocate for men, Gillette believes in igniting conversations that raise and inspire the future generation,” said Grey Group India chief creative officer Sandipan Bhattacharyya. “We want men breaking free of notions that crying makes them weaker. It takes courage to show your vulnerability”

The campaign is part of a broader theme by Gillette which was exemplified by Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar who posted to his over 30 million fans on Twitter an image titled “To the Men of Today, and Tomorrow.”
